London

London, originally uploaded by Moxette.

Does he look threatening? He probably isn't, but how do you know? It looks like he has menace in his eyes. People make all kinds of wrong assumptions don't they?

London.

irresistible portraits. Simple, and direct. Beauty in all its shapes and sizes.

Element and Sky

Element and Sky, originally uploaded by Dee-cisions.

I wanted to add another one from Dee's fantastic project, it's so interesting and original, and I love seeing what she sees round London.

staring

staring, originally uploaded by Patrick.T.

I found it hard to choose one out of Patrick's fantastic set from Speakers' Corner in London.

They are all taken on a perfect crisp London day - the photos not only reflect the wonderful range of eccentric characters at Speakers' Corner but also the crisp January weather.

Simple, and straightforward. Choose a decent background, get close to your subject, and get a great portrait.

rob on the tube

rob on the tube, originally uploaded by my left's : your right.

I don't know what it is but I just love portraits taken on the tube. Either ones like this, of a friend of the photographer, or random ones too.

I reckon not a single week will go by without at least one tube portrait.

it's the way all the colours are so complimentary, and the expert choice of depth of field here.

to the National Portrait Gallery

All dressed up and off to see the Hockney exhibition, I met these lovely ladies on the steps of the National Portrait Gallery.

Great outfits girls.

The Hockney exhibition was very inspiring, besides from the stunning paintings he experimented with photography for a few years. His interesting take on things was to do portrait-collages which are fabulous - portraits made up of several images all patched together. despite the fact that the pieces did not match perfectly you still get that sense of a person's character so obviously Hockney.

end of an era

end of an era, originally uploaded by monaxle.

well it's the end of an era (how many more football cliches can get in?)

Goodbye Highbury, hello Ashburton Grove.

Sad to see it go though, I love Art Deco London and not enough of it is left.

London'a Finest

London, originally uploaded by Tsingtao.

I'm really surprised he got the policemen to pose for a shot - in this day and age, you'd think they wouldn't have time to indulge a photographer any more.

Anyway it's great to see all side of London and the Met is no exception.

Jump into the black

Jump into the black, originally uploaded by Dee-cisions.

A great project, Dee is a photography student and in her project she is going round London's Lidos.

At this time of year, she must be really cold.

this particular shot is at Ruislip Lidom which had fallen into disrepair like many other london lidos.

[365 days - day 32]

[365 days - day 32], originally uploaded by The Polstar*.

An entry from a 365 days participant. 365 days is a self-portrait project, where people have to have the discipline to take self portraits every day for a year. Tough going, but this is fabulous work and a project to follow from Polly.

Thank you very much

More from Eamon on the tube. I love the expression on his face. And the outfit ofcourse. And he seems to have the stance just right.

Drawing

Drawing, originally uploaded by Andy(Shotage).

The whole town seems to meet in Trafalgar Square. even if you think it's all tourists, Londoners gravitate towards the place as well.

Andy says the guy wants his photo in a gallery. Will a web gallery do for now?

On the Underground

Another wonderful shot from Eamon, this time somewhere on the Tube.

A fabulous study of texture and movement, wonderful contrast between the jacket and the escalator.

Chill

Chill, originally uploaded by dicksdaily.

Bonus shot - from dicks daily. This blog is more about engaging with people than candid shots, bu this one is too superb to miss. Wonderfully sharp, and wonderful colours, a superb slice of life in London 2007.

Scary or Funny?

A lighter note for the last photo from Eamon for the week.

Each end of the scale

London is a city of contrasts, clearly shown by these last two photos from Eamon.

More from Eamon...

All hail the queen

Sharp looks on the streets

, originally uploaded by 'stpiduko'.

Eamon (www.eamonlane.com) has a great eye for interesting people on the streets of London. His blog is worth following as he's always got new projects up his sleeve. All five of the next photos are taken by him on his various film cameras. Experimenting as always, long may it continue!

Ways of Seeing

Ways of Seeing, originally uploaded by Trois Tetes (TT).

At the other end of the scale in Week 1, we have the Velasquez exhibition. I love the individual old lady peering through her glasses, standing out from the crowd. Nice to see people out enjoying art, pity the age range seems quite high.

walking

For week 1, Hannah. She may be a young Londoner but she certainly has a giant future ahead of her.

Happy New Year Kate and Simon

My new year was spent with several australians moving back there, some brits going there too, and three couples getting married in the next few months.

These are Kate and Simon, getting married in a few months' time. It was an optimistic way to spend New Year.

Canon 5D, 50mm1.4, 580EX bounced off low white ceiling.

365 Londoners

The project: A portrait photo collaboration. One portrait a day of a Londoner - at home, on the street, in the studio.

Contribute in our Flickr group, and a portrait from there will be selected for the blog.

We'd also like to publish the project outside of the blog.
