polaroid

, originally uploaded by JAMIE X.

great selection of shots from Jamie, telling the story of his life as ever.

Polaroids may be old fashioned but I'm sure they'll be here for a long time to come.

I'd love to have overheard the conversation between these photographers old and new. Nice to meet these kind of people along the way.

London Street Portraits - Liverpool Street (5 of 6)

Lovely direct gaze. Confrontational or not? You decide.

Beatnik afternoon

Beatnik afternoon, originally uploaded by Caroline Bonarde Ucci.

great use of a spare rainy London afternoon.

Is it ever going to stop raining? Love the contrast between this one and the last one, similar outfits, different outlook.

Direct

, originally uploaded by 'stpiduko'.

the direct gaze is what has caught me here, as well as the little mona lisa style smile.

For me, this is one of Eamon's best. i don't know whether it's the photogenic nature of the guy's face, the symmetry, or the timeless outfit - or everything together. Superb.

Great lighting here too.

D.I.S.C.O.

D.I.S.C.O., originally uploaded by isla_campbell.

wave your hands in the air, like you just don't care - perfect action shot!

"The Broken Biscuit Club"

such a well composed and well put together shot, whether for publicity material, mock-up, project, first album cover - works for them all really.

A great eye for composition, the frame reall helps steer the photo to the live people - the centre of attention - rather than the icon on the wall. Bring on the Broken Biscuit Club!

wembley

, originally uploaded by JAMIE X.

another great double from Jamie, at a gig at the brand new Wembley Stadium.

Popularity seems to be a problem for bands - personally I'd rather see music in a more intimat evenue, btu then again, if they're good, they can get popular, hence the need for the stadium show. The price of fame.

Brian Haw

Brian Haw, originally uploaded by Monkey Magic.

Brian Haw takes performance to another level - or rather, protest as performance. For the past six years he has occupied spae in Parliament Square protesting about the Blair government and the war in Iraq.

Now we have a change in Prime Minister, might he go?

I'm not sure he'd agree with my term "performance" for his protest - but I guess he wants to be noticed and his presence felt - the same as a performer in many ways.

Who's the daddy

a different kind of performance, this time a raffitti artist underneath the South Bank Centre. Truly incredible and awe-inspiring artwork. Hope it lasts for a very long time.

impromptu street sit-in - something to do with Architecture Week apparently.

Londoners. Strange sometimes, interesting always.

Save The Astoria!

Save The Astoria!, originally uploaded by nicasaurusrex.

Love this direct portrait of a protester on Charing Cross Road.

This week I've concentrated on the cultural scene around London, something the city is famous for and proud of. This guy is protesting against the closure of the Astoria Theatre, a famous venue right by Centre Point. it's seen many famous bands play over the years and now they want to turn it into offices and shops.

Many London music venues are in danger of being closed, because of their financial inviability. it really would be a pity to see so many go, the city really doesn't need more shops or offices thank you very much.

Bride and maids

Bride and maids, originally uploaded by shambles2007.

What a fab shot, just from a little camera. This is what 2007 is to me. All of these girls looking fab, helping their friend get ready for her big day.

It's been submitted to the How We Are Now exhibition on now at Tate Britain. I really recommend it, it's fascinating, a great introduction to famous and not-so-famous names in British photography. Also, it explores documentary and portrait photography, like most of these shots here, as well as British landscape and still-life photography.

You can also submit your photos to be shown on big screens at the end of the exhibition - so long as they were taken in Britain - check out the flickr group - http://www.flickr.com/groups/howwearenow/

smoking in the garden

Don't do it, kids. Bad for you but looking cool.
A great diptych here - each photo is great by itself but the combination is superb and well balanced. Jamie as usual has a great eye for the moment to capture.

Nu Rave

Is it a throwback to 1987? No, it isn't, it's 2007. This guy looks about 15, so he wouldn't have been around the first time to remember how bad the clothes were and how dire some of the music was too.

fantastic - in colour but almost balck and white. great dynamic street portrait.

London Naked Bike Ride 2007

Saturday was the World Wide Naked Bike Ride in Central London. If you saw any strategically placed flowers, like here, and wondered what happened, well now you know.

Breaking the rules (there and here), this is a great insight to a usually not seen world inside Lord's, the home of cricket. Well, usually not seen by me.

Charlotte

Charlotte, originally uploaded by bonjour television.

beautiful, the light and the colour, and the model of course. I bet lots of people would like more Londoners to look like her - as pretty as her anyway.

Pleased to see you

, originally uploaded by p0cket-paul..

The stony faced look. Maybe this is what a Londoner looks like.

Mr. ?

Mr. ?, originally uploaded by uberpang.

is this the face of everyman? a common look around London. Or maybe it's just in certain places. what does a Londoner look like? Maybe like this guy.

Aaaaargh

, originally uploaded by madeinsheffield.

In the Gormley exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, there's a room full of mist where you can apparently get lost very easily. I need to check it out right away.

Down in the cafe in Billingsgate. What's the secret for getting rid of the smell of fish?

, originally uploaded by jakeanory.

dancing up the escalators, I wonder if that's a trend that will catch on? I'd love to see more people doing it.
